CHOICE™ employee engagement model for managers

“Is an ‘employee engagement model’ for managers practical?”

Yes, but it does require a mental switch – innovation always does!  Current models for employee engagement generally focus on organisational policies and underplay the pivotal significance of the employee/manager relationship. Research suggests that this factor alone accounts for more than 80% of an employee’s decision to stay or leave, to invest discretionary effort or not – in short, to engage or disengage!

Recognising this linkage is the first step towards resolving the growing problem of employee disengagement. Then, ensuring that line managers do have the knowledge and skills to improve engagement becomes an imperative as it correlates to increased performance and lower turnover and sickness absence. This is often given insufficient attention by management training which, due perhaps to the rate of business change, tends to focus on process and task rather than people.

Immediate line managers have huge influence over employee perceptions, attitudes and behaviours. Based on worldwide research into the drivers of employee engagement, The Training Foundation developed the CHOICE™ model in consultation with a number of major clients. This innovative model has the objective of providing managers with clear insight into the real issues they face in managing their people.
