TAP qualifications for L&D professionals

The Training Foundation operates the UK’s leading Professional qualifications programme for learning and development professionals. Some 1,500 L&D specialists visit our training centres at the University of Warwick Science Park in Coventry, England each year. Around the same number attend closed, in-company courses facilitated by a Foundation consultant. In total, more than 20,000 since 1998.

Uniquely recognised by a Queen’s award for Enterprise Innovation in 2005, the TAP Learning System represents the ideal choice for everyone in a training role, every training provider and every organisational L&D function seeking to provide a high-quality, consistent service.

What's the structure of the Qualifications matrix?

As you will see from the TAP Qualifications matrix certificates build incrementally to provide a path from a Certificate in Delivery skills, through a TAP role-based Diploma, to the Foundation Degree in Learning and Development Practice awarded by Chester Unversity. In all, there are twelve certificates, five diplomas as well as the Foundation Degree.

The TAP diplomas are: Learning Facilitation, Learning Design, e-Learning, L&D Consultancy and L&D Management. Each Diploma comprises 4 certificated short-courses. Contextualised courses for IT Trainers are also available.

All TAP Qualifications are aligned with the relevant National Occupational Standards published by Lifelong Learning UK (LLUK) and the Competencies published by the International Board of Standards for Training, Performance and Instruction (ibstpi). As such, they are internationally applicable.

Are TAP Qualifications valued?

They certainly are - from both an academic and a commercial perspective.

Academic recognition:  All TAP Certificates and Diplomas are accredited by Higher Education at Levels 4 and 5 (the University of Chester) and carry transferable HE credit. Each of the five role-based TAP Diplomas can qualify for a Professional HE Certificate (60 credits). They also aggregate to a Certificate in Higher Education (120 credits) or to the Foundation Degree in L&D Practice (240 credits). These are awarded by Chester University and are entirely based on the TAP Programme content; all are delivered exclusively by The Training Foundation.

Commercial recognition: Of course, qualifications are only any real use if they are recognised and valued by employers and customers! Since more than 1,200 organisations are using TAP methodologies in their training provision, L&D professionals with a TAP Qualification are highly sought after. Just search on 'TAP trainer vacancies' and compare the results with any other training certification...

Who awards TAP Qualifications?

Successful completion of TAP certificated courses leads to the award of Qualifications by the British Institute for Learning and Development.  Under a Partnership Agreeement with Chester University, all HE awards (see above) are made by Chester.
